Community Guidelines
ScholarSafe is a community. These guidelines exist to keep it honest, respectful, and safe for every student and landlord.
Be honest
All listings, reviews, and profiles must be accurate. Do not misrepresent property conditions, pricing, availability, or your identity. Honest information keeps everyone safe.
Be respectful
Treat every person on this platform — landlords, students, and roommates — with dignity. Harassment, threats, hate speech, and discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, disability, or any other characteristic will result in immediate account removal.
No fake listings
Do not post properties you do not own or manage. Do not post listings at addresses that do not exist or are not available. We actively verify listings and cooperate with law enforcement regarding fraudulent postings.
No misleading photos
All images must accurately represent the property being listed. Stock photos, photos of different units, or manipulated images are prohibited and will result in listing removal.
No spam
Do not post duplicate listings, send unsolicited messages, or use our platform to promote unrelated services. Spam results in account suspension.
Protect personal information
Do not share or collect personal identifying information (full SSNs, passport numbers, bank details) through ScholarSafe. We are a discovery platform, not a payment or document processing service.
Reviews must be genuine
Only leave reviews for properties you have personally lived at. Do not write fake positive or negative reviews. Do not incentivise others to write reviews. Review manipulation undermines student safety.
Respect privacy
Do not post photos, contact information, or personal details of other users without their explicit consent.
Never pay off-platform before viewing in person
ScholarSafe never asks you to wire money, pay via gift cards or cryptocurrency, or send a deposit before viewing a property in person and meeting the landlord. Always confirm the landlord's identity and the lease/deposit terms directly, in writing, before paying anything. If someone asks you to pay this way, don't — and report the listing immediately.
No impersonation
Do not create an account pretending to be another person, a company, or ScholarSafe staff. Do not misrepresent your relationship to a property (e.g. claiming to be the owner or manager when you're not).
No illegal content or activity
Do not use ScholarSafe to post, request, or facilitate anything illegal — including discriminatory housing terms, illegal subletting where prohibited, or content that violates any applicable law.
Protecting minors
Users under 13 are prohibited. Users aged 16–17 may use ScholarSafe only with a parent or legal guardian's involvement and permission, and may not create landlord accounts or publish listings. Any content sexualizing or endangering a minor will be removed immediately and may be referred to law enforcement and, where applicable, NCMEC.
